2010 Ford Ranger Updates
<p>You won't see exterior changes to the 2010 Ford Ranger, because the "new" truck looks pretty much the same as the 2009 model, not too surprising since the Ranger will soon be history. Why You Might Need Gap Insurance
<p>It's a given, new vehicles <em>always</em> decrease in value the moment you drive them off of a dealer's lot. When you finance the majority of a new vehicle's purchase price, value loss can be a problem, because you'll be driving around in a truck that the insurance company regards as <em>pre-owned</em>, and coverage may not come close to the amount you owe the finance company if the truck is damaged beyond repair. Mahindra (Finally) Receives EPA Approval to Sell Trucks in USA
<p><img style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px; float: left;" title="Mahindra Diesel Pickup Trucks Coming to the U.S." src="http://z.about.com/d/trucks/1/0/J/R/1/mahindra-preview-bl.jpg" alt="Mahindra Diesel Pickup Trucks Coming to the U.S." width="170" height="102" />Mahindra & Mahindra has pushed back its entry into the United States truck market several times, but now says it has received Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval to sell the pickups. Current plans are to have 4-cylinder, 2.2 liter trucks on dealer lots by December -- the only compact diesel trucks available in the U.S. Mahindra trucks will be equipped with electronic stability control, traction control, active rollover mitigation, 4 wheel ABS brakes and a 140 horsepower turbo diesel engine. The automaker says its trucks should get about 30 mpg in highway driving. Ram Adds Outdoorsman Package to its Pickup Truck Lineup
<p><img style="float: left; margin: 1px; border: 0pt none;" title="Ram Outdoorsman Pickup Trucks" src="http://0.tqn.com/d/trucks/1/0/R/T/1/Ram-Outdoorsman-s.jpg" alt="Ram Outdoorsman Pickup Trucks" /> Ram introduced a new trim level package that's available across pretty much the entire trucks lineup. Called the <em>Outdoorsman</em> package, it's geared to hunters, fisherman, camping buffs or anyone else who uses a pickup truck for outdoor activities. A new insert (the Holster, $205) is available for the RamBox, and has special storage racks to hold guns and/or fishing rods. Customs at the SEMA Show
<p><img class="alignleft" style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px; float: right;" title="P-Ayr at SEMA" src="http://z.about.com/d/trucks/1/0/7/O/1/p-ayr-bl.jpg" alt="P-Ayr at SEMA" width="175" height="125" />P-Ayr is a company that builds lightweight models of all sorts of components. For the auto industry the list includes engines, carburetors, manifolds -- pretty much anything they're asked to build. Driver Error the Cause of Most Toyota "Acceleration Problems"
<p>The National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has determined that the acceleration problems associated with Toyota vehicles were caused primarily by "pedal misapplication," when drivers pushed down on the gas pedal instead of hitting the brake. Investigators looked at the "black boxes" installed in the vehicles to determine the sequence of events. Out of 58 cases studied, brakes were not applied in 35.</p> <p>Toyota released a statement about NHTSA's 8/10/10 preliminary report to Congress, saying in part:</p> <p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Having conducted more than 4,000 on-site vehicle inspections, in no case have we found electronic throttle controls to be a cause of unintended acceleration. Ford to Boost Power on All New Super Duty Diesel Trucks
<p><img style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px; float: right;" title="Ford Super Duty Truck Power Boost Program" src="http://0.tqn.com/d/trucks/1/0/G/M/1/2011_superduty_intro_b.jpg" alt="Ford Super Duty Truck Power Boost Program" width="170" height="120" />Ford announced a software upgrade that will increase power (and improve fuel economy) on 2011 Super Duty trucks equipped with the new 6.7L turbocharged diesel engine. The program affects all of the trucks -- current owners will be asked to bring their pickups in for the upgrade and trucks on dealer lots will undergo the process before delivery when possible. Tacoma Gets Two New TRD Packages for 2011
<p><img class="alignleft" style="border: 0pt none; margin: 5px; float: left;" src="http://0.tqn.com/d/trucks/1/3/B/T/1/Toyota-Tacoma-TX-Pro-Badge.jpg" alt="2011 Toyota Tacoma TX Pro Pickup Trucks" />Look for two new Toyota Racing Development (TRD) performance packages on 2011 Tacoma pickup trucks. Inspired by the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://trucks.about.com/od/2007toyotatrucks/ig/2011-Toyota-Tacoma-Trucks/Tacoma-TRD-T-X-Concept-Truck.htm">T/X concept Tacoma</a> shown at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the T/X and T/X Pro packages outfit the trucks with a couple of hard parts and a few extra accessories.
