<p>The Army is investigating allegations that soldiers were pressured to attend a Christian concert -- and punished when they refused, according to an <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/09/MONDAY1army-concert-090610w/">Army Times article</a>.</p> <p>Pvt. Anthony Smith says he was one of 80 soldiers in Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Va., who were punished for opting not to attend a Christian rock concert on post. The soldiers were confined to their barracks, ordered to clean and were barred from using cell phones and other electronics, according to Smith and another soldier who asked to remain anonymous.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/07/soldiers-allege-punishment-over-christian-show.htm">Soldiers Allege Punishment Over Christian Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 at 11:31:34.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/07/soldiers-allege-punishment-over-christian-show.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/07/soldiers-allege-punishment-over-christian-show.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/07/soldiers-allege-punishment-over-christian-show.htm&zItl=Soldiers Allege Punishment Over Christian Show">Email this</a></p>

U.S. Enters Final Phase of Iraq War
<p>The U.S. on Wednesday moved into the final phase of its military involvement in Iraq, with administration officials saying the war was ending even as the new commander of the remaining 50,000 troops warned of the ongoing threat from "hostile elements," according to an <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/09/ap-final-phase-of-iraq-war-090110/">Army Times article</a>.</p> <p>The transfer of authority came a day after President Barack Obama announced the shift from combat operations to preparing Iraqi forces to assume responsibility for their own security. Obama made clear in Tuesday's speech that this was no victory celebration.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/u-s-enters-final-phase-of-iraq-war.htm">U.S. Enters Final Phase of Iraq War</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:44:30.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/u-s-enters-final-phase-of-iraq-war.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/u-s-enters-final-phase-of-iraq-war.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/u-s-enters-final-phase-of-iraq-war.htm&zItl=U.S. Enters Final Phase of Iraq War">Email this</a></p>

Iraqis Worry as U.S. Combat Troops Pull Out
<p>Iraqis, who for years have railed against the U.S. occupation, are generally happy to see that the American presence won't be endless. But there is also considerable trepidation about whether Iraq can go it alone, detailed in an <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/08/ap-end-of-combat-role-iraqis-worry-083110/">Air Force Times story</a>.</p> <p>Just under 50,000 U.S. troops remain in Iraq -- down from a peak of nearly 170,000 at the height of the military surge in 2007. Those troops will be focused on training and assisting the Iraqi military, and will no longer be allowed to go on combat missions unless requested and accompanied by Iraqi forces.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/iraqis-worry-as-u-s-combat-troops-pull-out.htm">Iraqis Worry as U.S. Combat Troops Pull Out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:43:25.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/iraqis-worry-as-u-s-combat-troops-pull-out.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/iraqis-worry-as-u-s-combat-troops-pull-out.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/iraqis-worry-as-u-s-combat-troops-pull-out.htm&zItl=Iraqis Worry as U.S. Combat Troops Pull Out">Email this</a></p>

TDY Per Diem Rates to Drop for Many Areas
<p>Employees traveling on federal business to many popular destinations will get smaller reimbursements for hotel expenses as of Oct. 1, according to an <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.armytimes.com/news/2010/09/military-2011-per-diem-rates-083110w/">Army Times story</a>.</p> <p>Per diem rates for lodging will decline in 310 of the 378 areas where the General Services Administration sets rates higher than the standard rate. For example, federal employees traveling to Manhattan were reimbursed up to $318 per day on a hotel from April to June 2010. Between April and June next year, that will plunge to $212 per day.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/tdy-per-diem-rates-to-drop-for-many-areas.htm">TDY Per Diem Rates to Drop for Many Areas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:39:11.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/tdy-per-diem-rates-to-drop-for-many-areas.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/tdy-per-diem-rates-to-drop-for-many-areas.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/tdy-per-diem-rates-to-drop-for-many-areas.htm&zItl=TDY Per Diem Rates to Drop for Many Areas">Email this</a></p>

Lack of Air Force Family Housing in Korea
<p>The Air Force advertised its South Korea bases to families, and they came. So many airmen volunteered for accompanied tours that Osan Air Base won't be able to handle any more dependents until at least 2012. Until then, slots open only when families leave, according to an <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/08/air-force-korea-housing-demand-exceeds-supply-082810w/">Air Force Times story</a>. Kunsan Air Base can't begin to house families on base until at least 2020.</p> <p>The Air Force set out two years ago to attract more volunteers for two- and three-year assignments by telling airmen they could bring their families. It didn't take long to fill the 632 slots at Osan Air Base, or the other 180 slots at nearby Army and joint base housing.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/lack-of-air-force-family-housing-in-korea.htm">Lack of Air Force Family Housing in Korea</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:37:45.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/lack-of-air-force-family-housing-in-korea.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/lack-of-air-force-family-housing-in-korea.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/lack-of-air-force-family-housing-in-korea.htm&zItl=Lack of Air Force Family Housing in Korea">Email this</a></p>

Bug-Proof Uniforms
<p>When training in the field, are bugs swarming your cammies? Military uniforms now are treated with pesticides under a patchwork of policies that give various levels of protection -- and in some cases ask troops to treat their own clothing before deploying.</p> <p>But military's top insect experts are working to develop a forcewide standard for treating military uniforms with bug-repellent pesticides, according to a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2010/09/marine-dod-bug-protections-090210w/">Marine Corps Times article</a>.</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/bug-proof-uniforms.htm">Bug-Proof Uniforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/">About.com US Military</a> on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 10:36:41.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/bug-proof-uniforms.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/bug-proof-uniforms.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://usmilitary.about.com/b/2010/09/03/bug-proof-uniforms.htm&zItl=Bug-Proof Uniforms">Email this</a></p>
